Mind Over Mood: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think – Book Review

Mind Over Mood is one of those rare books that can change your life in profound ways.  Written by clinical psychologists with decades of experience, Mind Over Mood relates the wisdom of cognitive behavioral therapy in the form of an easy to understand manual full of simple and powerful steps.  Powerful baby steps are the best!

(Going with the baby theme, Mind Over Mood can be shortened to MOM, and it can be the official CBT Mom because it’s just that awesome.  Just sayin’.)

Mind Over Mood will help you learn how to use cognitive behavioral therapy to conquer anxiety, depression, eating disorders, anger, low self-esteem, guilt, addictions, and relationship problems.

Some of Mind Over Mood’s sixteen chapters cover these hella helpful topics:

Understanding Your Problems

Situations, Moods, and Thoughts

Automatic Thoughts

Identifying and Rating Moods

Setting Personal Goals and Noticing Improvement

Core Beliefs

Understanding Your Anxiety

Understanding Your Depression

Understanding Your Anger, Guilt, and Shame

Maintaining Your Gains and Experiencing More Happiness

You’ll also find gratitude journals, mindfulness exercises, happiness rating scales, acceptance and forgiveness exercises, 25 new worksheets, and more!  Seriously, I don’t know how they fit it all in less than 350 pages.

Many counselors and therapists have recommended this book to clients, and even worked through the book for themselves.  (I’m one of them.) Informative, engaging, easy to understand, and life-changing–is there nothing this book doesn’t have?

Rating: 5 stars

(Ok, hearts. They wanted to be hearts.)
